Born in Tanzania or residing here for many years, we know from our own experience that life in general in Tanzania and Zanzibar is not always easy and brings a lot of hardship. Education and healthcare in developing countries have been and still are of minor quality, accessibility and importance than in the developed world. Many families lack financial means and social security is not available. Our work in the tourism industry gives us now the opportunity to support the less fortunate.
Zama Tours & Safaris sponsors an interesting and successful private project based in Stone Town, called TAWFIQ.
TAWFIQ Business Education Center has been established in 1995 by Mr. Abeid Amani Sokko and Mr. Ali Salum Mbuyu. The purpose of the project is to help students who had to drop out their secondary schools at an age of 15 or 16 years old, because their parents were not able to finance their studies. The center was established to provide business education studies in order to enable the students to become entrepreneurs or to find suitable employment in the labour market.
Mr. Mussa Msabah, Managing Director of Zama Tours & Safaris, was one among those students who has benefited from this project. With the knowledge gained during these weekend classes, he managed to establish his own company, Zama Tours. Being proud of having reached his goals with the support of TAWFIQ, Mr. Mussa considered that, as a way of giving back, it was his wish to help also other drop-out students to enjoy the same benefits and to be equally successful in their future entrepreneurship. Therefore Zama Tours & Safaris is providing sponsorship to 10 students per year for a period of 4 years of studies in TAWFIQ. So far the project has succeeded to provide 1 PhD, 5 Master degrees and 15 Undergraduates.
Zama Tours follows happily the progress of its students and if you, as our guest in Zanzibar, wish also to contribute to the TAWFIQ project, you are most welcome!
